Compared with the same month last year, prices at some top European city’s hotels have fallen by as much as seven per cent according to a recent survey.
Trivago who are a price comparison website did a survey on 50 top European destinations and found that 38 of those city’s hotels had dropped their prices or had stayed the same against July 2008. By far the largest reduction was in Madrid where prices had fallen by a massive 31 per cent on average across the board. Other tourist hotspots like Rome, Amsterdam, Oslo, Turin, Lisbon and Bologna had all seen a hefty percentage knocked off their room rates also.
The reduction will most likely favour those who choose to book last minute holidays to Europe with hotels desperate to fill empty rooms over the summer months. A small upturn in the pound against the euro will also see some prices come down further giving people a welcome break.
Other destinations in Europe have also welcomed price reductions with Valencia in Spain dropping by 23 per cent also Brussels has fallen by 19 per cent and Stockholm in Sweden by 14 per cent. The only city in Europe to show a noticeable rise was Geneva whose hotel room prices soared by 10 per cent compared with that off last year.
